Eddie Edwards Bio- Certified NFLPA Contract Advisor
Eddie Edwards Jr. is an accredited attorney belonging to the Pennsylvania Bar and a Certified Contract Advisor with the NFL Players Association. Eddie received his undergraduate degree from the Pennsylvania State University and his Juris Doctorate for the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
The journey of negotiating contracts for professional athletes began for Eddie in 2004 as he represented NFL All Pro and 3 time NFL Pro Bowl Punter Andy Lee in the NFL Draft. Eddie assisted Andy in every aspect of his preparation for the NFL Combine as well as the University of Pittsburgh Pro Day. In April of 2004 Andy Lee was drafted in the 6th round of the NFL Draft, which was 6 months into Eddie’s certification as a NFLPA Contract Advisor. That summer Eddie negotiated his first NFL Contract and endorsement contract on behalf of a professional athlete. Since then Eddie has negotiated contracts on behalf of several NFL players with multiple NFL Clubs. In addition to the NFL Eddie has negotiated contracts for players in NFL Europe, the Canadian Football League, Arena Football, Arena 2 Football and the United Football League. Eddie has represented rookies, veterans, restricted free agents and unrestricted free agents in their contract negotiations with NFL Clubs. Additionally, Eddie prides himself on his work with un-drafted rookie free agents in their pursuit of opportunities with NFL Clubs. Eddie’s transparent and no-nonsense approach to handling player needs has been beneficial to all of his clients.
In addition to Eddie’s experience in the NFL, he has also represented athletes and management companies in other sports. Eddie served as legal counsel for the Wheeling Jamboree, Charm City Boxing and the UCFC. As, the attorney for the Wheeling Jamboree which had served as the musical platform for such artists as Johnny Cash, Eddie was responsible for the engagement and contract negotiation for the Country Western Acts to perform as part of the historical concert series in Wheeling, West Virginia. Eddie negotiated with some of the countries biggest talent representation agencies including APA to secure acts for the Jamboree.
While working with Charm City Boxing, Eddie was able to successfully negotiate with boxing promotions companies all over the United States including Don King Productions for bouts on their fight cards. In 2007 Eddie successfully negotiated with Don King Promotions a spot on the undercard of the Nikolai Valuev boxing debut in the United States at the historic Rosemont Horizon in Chicago, IL. In the Summer of 2009 Eddie assisted the UCFC with their Pittsburgh, PA MMA show debut, entitled the Rumble on the Rivers. Eddie’s legal assistance helped UCFC secure the first MMA license issued in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Further Eddie negotiated the facility agreement with SMG to utilize the famed Civic Arena for the fight venue.
Prior to Eddie’s entry into the world of sports management and entertainment law, Eddie served as the Vice President of WPTT, Inc. and Glencarin, Ltd., which was the holding company for eight television stations in major markets spanning he United States. During his tenure in television, Eddie was no stranger to complex and comprehensive contract negotiations. Eddie has negotiated television and movie agreements with some of the nation’s largest networks and film production companies.
Eddie has been practicing Corporate, Sports and Entertainment law in Pittsburgh for the past ten years.
As a collegiate athlete, Eddie developed the ability to set goals and to formulate strategies to ensure those goals were achieved. Today, Mr. Edwards does the same for his clients, helping them in a diligent and effective manner to enable each client to attain their goals.
